I was recently asked that question by a friend who is not sure whether she could ever be a teacher standing in front of people and presenting herself and the subject of her teaching.
When I first started to teach I had no idea how to do it. I only knew how to help people and that was something working pretty well in the areas of my interest. I knew I can give good tips and inspire people to move and they are happy to listen. So at some point I felt like I might try to teach and I have to say it was one of the most powerful experiences of my life – to stand in front of the group, express and share myself and share with them something they have a wish to learn. To do that and see their joy and taking what I give with trust and gratitude gave me the confidence I have now.
It all starts from the first step – to try is the most important element of making a dream come true. And then, once you feel the energy and reaction of the audience, you decide whether it is a good idea for you to follow that path. I was nervous sometimes, stressed to share something that was new for me, a brand new workshop program or a skill that I had just learnt but felt like teaching it to the others. However, I always felt the fear or stress to be something temporary and the wish to try was much more stronger. I was lucky the response I got was most of the times good and gave me confidence to do more and share more as well as experiment and change the way I teach sometimes.
